Position Overview

RUDOLPH AND SLETTEN  has an immediate need for a Superintendent with Healthcare experience to coordinate field operations for large scale, fast track projects with a commitment to quality and safe construction processes. This includes managing the use of material and manpower on the job site and creating client satisfaction and company profit. This position reports directly to a Senior Superintendent, Fields Operations Manager or other assigned supervisors. This position is located in San Carlos, CA.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This position carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Supervisory responsibilities include, but are not limited to: training and mentoring employees; planning, assigning, delegating and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; and resolving employee issues.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Possess a working knowledge and understanding of Logistics and Scheduling
  • Participates in the formulation of Sub-Scopes and Exhibit A’s and Subcontractor De-Scopes
  • Implements established job plan, monitors progress and reports results to supervisor
  • Develops and instills confidence, competence and trust with subcontractors
  • Responsible for reporting cost cods and daily labor units
  • Responsible for all daily reports and reporting of any job specific impacts that may occur regarding time delay, scheduling conflicts and or cost implications to the General Superintendent
  • Oversees field operations including supervising and managing personnel and subcontractors
  • Monitors work quality and implements and oversees the Field Quality Control Program
  • Develops the job site safety plan in coordination with General Superintendents and Safety Engineer
  • Manages and monitors construction activity to maintain compliance with contract specifications and company quality and safety standards
  • Maintains job site safety and constantly scans job site for potential safety hazards
  • Takes immediate appropriate action to correct any safety issues
  • Generates all requisitions, purchase orders, tool acquisitions, inventory, returns, and equipment rentals
  • Posts jobsite work rules, signage, and bulletin boards. Coordinates new hire orientation with Safety Engineer
  • Supervises and monitors the performance of Area Superintendents
  • Prepares labor production budget and establishes and maintains labor control in coordination with Superintendents and reviews cost reports with General Superintendent
  • Interfaces with Project Manager to settle any union jurisdictional disputes that may arise. Works cooperatively and proactively to maintain labor union relations
  • Monitors schedule with Project Manager and Project Engineers, approves all layoffs, assigns work to field personnel
  • Reports labor time and signs time sheets
  • Prepares and reviews and initials Daily Construction Reports
  • Schedules safety meetings
  • Administers job site mobilization
  • Participates in or Chairs weekly subcontractor coordination meetings and verifies minutes
  • Develops accident procedure with Project Manager, Superintendents and Engineers
  • Participates in pre-construction meetings
  • Reviews and verifies weekly quantities
  • Participates in weekly coordination meetings with architect and owner
  • Prepares and reviews job schedules (look-ahead schedules at three-weeks and nine-weeks in advance intervals)
  • Participates in schedule meetings, weekly coordination meetings and all Safety meetings. Chairs the finish trade coordination meetings
  • Demonstrates full and current knowledge of all OSHA Safety requirements and maintains compliance with these requirements on the job site at all times
  • Oversees the maintenance of job site security
  • Completes and processes back-charge documentation
  • Obtains acceptance of completed work and owner sign-off
  • Coordinates special inspections as required
  • Ensures that all employee’s receive company Safety Training
  • Ensures subcontractors follow Safety Procedures
  • Perform weekly Safety Audits

Other Duties:

  • Demonstrates basic knowledge of commercial construction projects (surveying, soil nailing, excavation and site rough grading, masonry installation and framing, and interior finishes)
  • Oversees the maintenance of company vehicles and other equipment used in the field
  • Communicates job status to Project Manager and other management team members on a regular basis
  • Maintains a good line of communication with clients and subcontractors and building Trades and Local Union uses conflict mediation and troubleshooting skills to resolve any issues, questions or concerns
  • Handles a varied workload and multiple priorities while working as a team with co-workers to accomplish company and project goals
  • Represents Company at all times with professionalism and a commitment to quality
  • Performs all other duties as assigned by supervisor
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations to include health, safety, and welfare as appropriate

Required Job Skills:

  • Experience managing multiple prime contractors
  • Performs work tasks by receiving direction and then working independently with an interest in quickly learning and applying new skills and abilities
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills

Computer Equipment and Software:

Special skills: Basic working knowledge of Windows Operating Systems – particularly; Excel, Word and Outlook, etc.

Basic knowledge of Prolog software desired.

Basic knowledge of scheduling, estimating and cost principles desired. Basic knowledge of CAD 2000 or CAD 3-D is desired.

Education and Experience:

Certification: Not applicable.

Education: High school diploma or equivalent. Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related filed is desired, a combination of education and work experience will be considered in lieu of degree.   

Experience: A minimum of eight years in field construction management or related field.

Physical Demands:

The physical demands described are representative of those that must be met to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. On occasion it may be necessary to lift and carry or manipulate items of up to 50 lbs., walk over uneven or unpaved ground to reach a worksite in construction zones. This position may be required to perform a variety of construction tasks in all areas and aspects of the construction project—including scaffold or platform work, confined spaces and exposure to outside elements. If your position requires you to enter the field it is mandatory that you wear approved Personal Protective Equipment. This position may be required to work schedules which may include shift work, such as; dayshift, swing-shift, graveyard, holiday and/or weekend shifts. This position may also require occasional travel as necessary. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, bend, use hands, operate a computer, and have specific vision abilities to include close and distance vision, and ability to adjust focus working with computer and business equipment.
