Description:

Thomas Safran & Associates is hiring a highly motivated Development Assistant Project Manager to support our development team on new construction projects. The Development Assistant Project Manager will be responsible for assisting and collaborating with the team’s Project Managers. This position will have the opportunity to gain broad exposure to the affordable housing development industry and directly impact the successful growth of the company.

 

An ideal candidate is bright and has excellent interpersonal and organizational skills who takes the initiative to follow through and "get it done". They are self-motivated, well rounded, highly capable, socially responsible, and passionate about the mission of the company. This position is based out of our main office in Brentwood, Los Angeles and may require some travel throughout the Los Angeles area.

Essential duties of the position:

  • Provide general project management support to Project Manager in relation to new construction projects from acquisition and design through financing, construction and lease-up, to the successful handoff to property management.
  • Review contracts, manage due diligence for construction and permanent loan closings, and facilitate transition to property management.
  • Perform analytical and transactional tasks within the acquisition, entitlement/land use approval, and permitting processes, including coordinating consultants and architects, document management and market research.
  • Attend design, construction, and finance team meetings and prepare meeting notes and materials.
  • Communicate effectively with development team, internal departments, and external partners/stakeholders to prepare for meetings, coordinate workflow, and meet team goals.
  • Assist with the preparation and submittal of various federal, state and local funding applications.
  • Provide administrative support such as filing and processing paperwork to assist in maintaining an organized system and accurate record keeping, producing photocopies and other materials, as requested.
  • Draft reports, memos, and letters for internal and external distribution, as needed.

 

Experience and Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • 1-3 years’ work experience desired. Internships and Masters' Degrees in urban planning, real estate, business, public policy, public administration, or a related field, may be substituted for experience.

  • Excellent written, verbal and computer skills (Microsoft Excel, Word, Project, and Adobe).
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Happy, energetic, self-motivated, professional individual who can juggle multiple tasks efficiently, meet deadlines and follow-up.
  • High degree of professionalism and ability to anticipate changing needs and pivot accordingly.
  • Self-motivated and ability to work under pressure in an entrepreneurial environment
