Position Overview

Redwood City, CA, San Jose, CA

DPR Construction is seeking to fill a key role in our Bay Area Region, as the Virtual Design & Construction Manager. Reporting directly to the Business Unit Lead and Regional VDC Manager, the successful candidate will lead development, implementation and support of all VDC processes across the Bay Area region.  


The primary objective for this individual is to scale established VDC initiatives to be further leveraged by project teams both in the office and field, and supporting model-based project management, process workflows, and construction technology deployment for region.




·         Responsible for strategic tactical deployment of VDC initiatives and VDC technology platform(s) / solutions for the DPR business unit(s)

·         Assist in strategic regional business roadmap development, and in preparing the BIM/VDC portions of proposals and participating in interviews when appropriate

·         Review any risk or value for the organization by analyzing requirements, contract, and evaluation documents

·         Participate in preconstruction and operations management meetings for local office(s) and provide input as the VDC subject matter expert

·         Provides management and support services by monitoring performance against Project Execution Plans, Client and project needs, and institute remedial actions when required

·         Establishes and maintains relationships with internal and external clients that facilitate effective and efficient VDC processes

·         The creation of KPI’s and metrics to evaluate and assess value, impact, ROI of established VDC initiatives

·         Manage and participate in data gathering and analysis of metrics for regional and local VDC growth; Help develop the infrastructure needed to monitor goals, objectives and business plans

·         Coordinate and provide timely and value-added services to internal/external clients

·         Developing and documenting tasks, timelines and milestones, facilitating group meetings and documenting group findings

·         Help support standards/best practices for VDC implementation to be leveraged across the region

·         Develop preconstruction subcontractor procurement templates and exhibits for BIM/VDC buyout

·         Develop and manage internal/external resources for a regional VDC training program that will engage project teams in the everyday use of VDC best practices

·         Develop a thorough understanding of DPR’s project procurement, packaging and delivery methods to align VDC efforts with preconstruction, operations, scheduling & planning, and project controls.

·         Provide regional staff leadership and career development to VDC staff; engage in recruiting and all business unit VDC staffing plan efforts

·         Manage a regional staffing VDC plans, any DPR subsidiary resources, and all finances associated with project engagements

·         Provide leadership to regional/local VDC resources in a fashion that supports the company’s culture, mission and values

·         Engage and support large capital projects on an as needed basis to maintain best in class VDC project delivery; Dynamically rotate and support multiple and ongoing complex projects


Basic Qualifications


·         Travel to and from project sites and DPR offices in the region and occasional travel to various DPR regional business units / offices

·         Demonstrated ability to work in a flat-organization environment that requires full transparency, team collaboration, leading by influencing, and socialization of initiatives

·         Minimum 7-10 years of construction technologies hands-on experience in the AEC industry driving the adoption of VDC on large capital projects

·         Influence stakeholders face-to-face, and indirectly, whether through verbal or written communication plan, organize, and execute activities

·         Plan and organize VDC strategy on a per project; budget management and allocation of funds; creating and supporting internal services related to VDC platform; Creating and reviewing BIM contract language

·         Research, analyses, evaluate and apply information to support BIM/VDC operations and corporate direction

·         Documented career path of managing solution-implementation from pilot through project-wide adoption

·         Strong graphical, illustration and documentation skills; strong written and verbal communication skills required

·         Strong presentation skills and confidence to evangelize and speak in small or large groups


Technical Qualifications


·         Documented record of implementing VDC strategies beyond 3D modeling and clash-detection

·         Strong presentation skills and confidence to evangelize and speak in small or large groups

·         Applying the concepts and methods of VDC in construction logistics and facility / final product operations and maintenance areas

·         Intermediate to Advanced level software knowledge in Autodesk packages (i.e.: Revit, AutoCAD, Navisworks, etc.) and other platforms

·         Strong knowledge of contractor facing authoring and collaboration tools such as Revit, Tekla, 3D AutoCAD MEP, Inventor, etc.

·         Advanced knowledge of implementation and support of Autodesk BIM 360 products: Glue, Field, Docs, and/or Plan

·         Expert in leveraging and supporting Autodesk Navisworks Manage and/or Simulate

·         Advanced knowledge of model element quantification / estimation: Vico, Assemble Systems, or Navisworks QTO

·         Advanced knowledge of field measurement/modeling technologies: laser scanning/total station

·         Strong knowledge of UAV / Drone technologies for the use of aerial progress photos and point cloud capture

·         Advanced knowledge of CM processes and Project management tools: CMiC knowledge a plus

·         Advanced knowledge of working with project scheduling tools such as Oracle Primavera and integrating them with BIM / VDC tools and technologies

·         Ability to quickly learn new software tools and teach others


Required Education


·         Minimum Bachelor’s degree in construction management, engineering, architecture or similar field with emphasis on technology or equivalent
