Position Overview

Your Team

Reporting into the SVP & CFO, California & SW, the Controller is responsible for recording daily accounting transaction, accounting procedures and producing accurate and timely accounting reports and financial statements (including Joint Venture reporting).  You will direct and coordinate the daily activities of the accounting specialists and maintain a system of internal controls that ensures company assets are adequately safeguarded and that all financial reporting is prepared in compliance with all financial policies, filing requirements and applicable accounting principles.  You will also assist with the accounting systems conversion.

Your Key Deliverables

Process and Transaction

  • Supervise daily financial and accounting operations and lead and support monthly and annual GL close
  • Prepare/review monthly and quarterly internal and external financial reports as required, including financial statements, detailed variance analysis and general ledger account reconciliations
  • Prepare/review appropriate subsidiary schedules for above financial statements
  • Assist with budgets and forecasts, including monitoring of CFD receivable and DIF credits
  • Assist in the completion of annual audits including Company year-end financial statement audit, internal compliance audits, and other land or joint venture audits
  • Review monthly bank account reconciliation for all checking and depository accounts
  • Review check disbursement packages for completeness, proper approval and accuracy for check request, large payments and higher risk vendors and sign cheques

Financing and Loan

  • Set up initial loan budget and draw schedules
  • Prepare monthly loan draws and oversee the loan accounting functions, including interest calculation, reconciliation of loan balance with bank, reporting, etc.

Reporting and Analysis

  • Prepare monthly, quarterly and year-end working papers, ledger and sub-ledger journal entries, supporting financial and operational statements, and any required variance analysis
  • Prepare supporting documentation for business, tax or income tax filings and reports or corporate packs
  • Calculation of the preferred return
  • Calculation of capital contribution/distributions

System Conversion

  • Assist in the system conversion from the existing accounting system to a new corporate ERP system
  • Help raise concerns, implement new processes and seek solutions
  • They will assist with testing, providing key information for conversion and balance conversions

Audit/SOX Compliance

  • Coordinate the internal and external audit including the preparation of the required documents, coordinating with IT, verification of documents for completeness and responding to inquiries while communicating effectively with auditors

Supervisory

  • Supervise accountants and assist other members of the accounting team in recording and administration of the financial transactions
  • Actively participate in the accounting human resource strategies

Must Haves

  • A Bachelor's Degree in Accounting and 3-5 years’ relevant experience, or an equivalent mix of education and experience
  • Prior experience with leadership; managing more than one team member
  • Proven experience in financial reporting and working paper preparation, full-cycle and job cost accounting
  • Proven ability to work with multiple departments/managers and assignments simultaneously
  • Proficiency in MS Office, including Excel (intermediate level), Word, Outlook, and reporting skills
