Accountant

Your Team

Reporting to the Manager, Accounting, the Accountant will play a significant role in monitoring, interpreting, and communicating operating results of their Division, and will be responsible for the financial reporting by ensuring accurate and timely preparation of monthly, quarterly and annual financial information, as well as the analysis of results.

In this role, you will assist with the quarterly and annual budgeting process and assist with SOX compliance and internal control issues. You'll be responsible for day-to-day accounting functions and ensure all transactions are recorded and reported accurately, timely and completely and ensure adherence to budget and expenditures in accordance with corporate's accounting policies and procedures. Additionally, from time-to-time, you will be involved on projects that are relevant to the department and the division.

 Reporting and Analysis

• Compile and distribute monthly reports, including supporting schedules for financial statements   
• Prepare reporting for day-to-day cash transaction   
• Liaise with internal and external auditors
• Prepare reports on items, such as spec loads, sales, closings, starts and backlog information 
• Prepare customer deposit reconciliation and banking/financing reports
• Prepare and distribute bi-weekly commission reports and analysis 
• Ad hoc analysis, as requested  

 Forecasting

• Assist in the setup and preparation of the quarterly forecast reports 
• Prepare forecast notes

Process Management

• Review Final Customer Statement of Adjustments (HUD) 
• Prepare weekly cash transaction journal entries, month-end and closing entries for land and housing 
• Prepare journal entries for payroll allocations 
• Prepare Other General Journal Entries
• Monitor compliance with Limits of Authority Policy 

Audit/SOX Compliance 

• Prepare audit requests 
• Liaise with compliance auditors and provide requested information and respond to queries 
• Clearly communicate business processes to facilitate better understanding for the audit team

Additional Tasks

• Process assessments (e.g., Payroll reconciliation & booking processes)  
• Assist with processing business license renewal and misc. tax reporting  

Must Haves

• Bachelor's degree in Business, Accounting or Finance
• 3-5 years of accounting experience
• Have, or are pursuing, your accounting designation
• Proven experience in financial reporting and working paper preparation, full-cycle and job cost accounting
• Self-motivated, comfortable taking initiative, and possess superior organizational skills
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
