Event Overview

The Council Best Practices Committee invites nominations from among its membership, for the position of
2021-2023 At-large Director on the AIA Board of Directors.
Each year, the Strategic Council elects one (1) At-large Director to the AIA Board of Directors. Note that
no fewer than two-thirds of the At-large Directors elected by the Strategic Council and serving on the
Board at any one time may be Architect members.
Interested Councilors may submit a letter of candidacy and supporting materials on his/her own behalf, or
offer the nomination of another candidate.

Nomination packets must include:

  • Nominee’s letter of interest, addressed to:
    Nathan Butler, FAIA
    2020 Council Best Practices Committee – Elections Subcommittee
  • Nominee’s resume
  • Letter of support from at least one other current Council member  (NOTE: AIA National staff is prohibited from providing letters of
    support)
  • Supporting materials as desired
  • Total packet length may not exceed 8 pages

Next steps

  • 6/19 – Nominations close (5pm ET).
    Questions to be asked of candidates are due from Strategic Council.
  • 6/22 – Best Practices Committee call to review and discuss nominations, and to review
    and refine questions.
  • 6/23 – Candidate packets distributed to Strategic Council.
  • 6/24 – Qualified/Approved candidates are notified.
    Non-qualified/non-approved candidates are notified by the BPC Chair.
    Questions are distributed to the approved candidates.
  • 7/6 – Responses due from candidates.
  • 7/8 – Responses shared with Strategic Council
  • 7/9 – 7/21 Candidates permitted to campaign with current Strategic
    Councilors.
  • 7/23 – Strategic Council virtual assembly – candidate speeches.
  • 7/24 – Voting opens.
    7/31 Voting closes.
  • 8/3 – BPC review of voting results.
  • 8/4 – Results announced to Strategic Council; candidates are informed.
  • 9/10 – 9/11 The At-large Director-elect and Moderator-elect attend the virtual
    September Board meeting, as guests/observers.
